Approach
-
Our approach to history focuses on revealing the entangled relationships between people and the landscape throughout time. This relational method produces a more thorough analysis of the developmental history of a place, while also allowing a range of voices to be heard within its story.
-
Planning works best when enacted with and within community, and so collaboration is vital. While oriented toward the future, our approach to planning is in constant conversation with the past and present. It is an approach that is responsive to regulation, policy, and economics, as well as ecological, historic, and cultural contexts.
-
We begin with the premise that all landscapes carry the marks, values, and legacies of those who made them, lived in them, and call them home. There is no blank slate in our reckoning, and so, our design approach is one that relies on comprehensive understanding of the historic and contemporary context of a place. Designing with such contexts in clear focus provides opportunities for fruitful collaboration and lasting impacts.
Land Tangles Planning Studio offers collaborators, clients, and communities a comprehensive suite of cultural landscape history, planning, and design services. We work across diverse geographies, ecologies, scales, and historical contexts with dedicated attention to detail and process. Our multi-disciplinary approach provides the necessary insights that support the resilience, vitality, and vibrancy of communities, parks, heritage sites, and other valued spaces and places.
